I have taken the traditional family design which consisted of only 6 – 7 colors and expanded the palette while taking the design itself to a smaller, more intricate level.
Tulips and Carnation all originated in Turkey and depictions of them in ceramic ware can be dated back to the 15th century.

I use kaolin clay & Crystal Quarts it maximized the vividness of the colorful dyes. I use both electric and kick wheels depending on the piece. The kick wheel is great for large pieces and/or intricate pieces.

After the clay is shaped it is left to dry for 3 – 4 weeks. After that time if the piece is ready and has no cracks, it goes to the first firing for 15 hours. Once that is complete it is ready for the design. I start by drawing the outline and then paint the colors in layers allowing each layer to dry before starting the next.
then applies clay for the raised clay work and then paints the raised areas. After that I fire the pieces a second time at a lower temperature. Pieces are then glazed and allowed to dry for 2 to 3 days before the final firing that also takes 2 days.

I like to use raised clay work because it optimizes light reflection and enhances the beauty of the patter of the dyes. I use all natural dyes to ensure color quality.
